CREDIT EXTENDED & EXPANDED FOR BUYER TAX CREDIT. Congress voted to extend the buyer tax credit through next spring of 2010 & to expand it to many people who already own homes:
* Buyers who have owned their current homes at least five consecutive years out of the last eight years are eligible, subject to income limits, for tax credits up to $6500.00 for a purchase of a principal residence.
* First-time home buyers who have not owned a home in the previous three years-could get up to $8000.00. To qualify, buyers have to sign purchase agreements before May 1st & close before July 1st, 2010.
* Vacation & rental homes do not qualify.
* Single taxpayers will qualify if they earn up to $125,000.00. The old cap was $ 75,000.00.
* Married couples' income limit rose to $225,000.00 from $ 150,000.00.
* A lesser known part of the law gives home builders a tax break allowing them to claim cash refunds against past taxes...
